The Art Colony Association, Inc. has announced that Daryl Thetford, a mixed-media artist from Chattanooga, TN, will be the featured artist at the 50th Anniversary of Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park. To create his unique artworks, Thetford begins with a single original photographic image that is followed by digitally layering and combining dozens more original photographs. To these images, he adds hand-hammered paper, various other media, and acrylic paint. The result ranges from instantly recognizable cultural images, like bikes, cowboys, or cityscapes, to more intellectually challenging depictions of humankind’s internal struggle with society or its feeling of isolation amid the hub-bub of today’s world. Adjectives like graphic, pop, and contemporary have been used to describe his work, which has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States.

At the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park 2022, Thetford will be joined by 300 other artists representing 19 different disciplines. For three intriguing days, from Friday, March 25 to Sunday, March 27, 2022, event participants will experience the thrill of two entertainment stages, a food truck park, a craft beer and wine garden, an active imagination zone, a VIP hospitality lounge, and much more. To add to the excitement, the artwork of the top 30 finalists from the Middle School Art Competition also will be on display.

For 50 years, Bayou City Art Festival has provided distinctive art experiences and education for the greater Houston area by hosting diverse artists at Bayou City art festivals. At the same time, it has supported local organizations and promoted the impact art has on the Houston community. As the nation’s premier spring outdoor art festival, this year’s event will give guests the opportunity to meet artists; view original works; and purchase one-of-a-kind art, prints, jewelry, sculptures, functional art, and much more.

Online early bird tickets will soon be available at www.bayoucityartfestival.com: $15 for adults, $5 for children six to twelve, and free for children under five. Adult tickets purchased after March 15, 2022 will be $18. VIP Hospitality Lounge tickets are $60 and include admission to the festival.  Online pre-purchased tickets are required in order to enter the festival. Tickets will not be sold at the gate and can only be purchased online.
