Alicia Smith proudly wears many hats: those of wife, mother, entrepreneur, volunteer, and philanthropist. Born in Venezuela and raised in Port Neches, Texas, Alicia is president and CEO of Innovative Legal Solutions, a full-service litigation support and document management provider serving clients from various walks of life, including oil and gas, engineering, small business, law, and government. Innovative was originally founded in 1992 as Associated Video Services, Inc.—the first female-owned legal video enterprise in Houston. Her entrepreneurial drive led her to expand Associated Video into Innovative Legal Solutions in 1997. Alicia has also owned and operated several successful Houston clothing boutiques.
While her business life flourished, so, too, did Alicia’s personal life. She and her husband, Lance, are the proud parents of three sons: 21-year-old Lance Jr., 19-year-old Cole, and 17-year-old Chandler. Alicia and Lance can always be found supporting their sons’ many activities. Of the many hats Alicia wears, being a mother is her most cherished and meaningful role. Alicia attributes her role as a parent with strengthening her commitment to serving charitable organizations that benefit youth, health, and the arts.
Alicia was appointed to the Court Reporters Certification Board (CRCB) Task Force in 2008, serves on the board of directors of the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA), the Houston Ballet, and the Southwest Regional Board of Directors for UNICEF, is a member of the International Women’s Forum, and sits on the advisory board of Houston PetSet. Alicia is also a member of the board of the Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP), a peer-based support group and 12-step program specializing in helping children and youth from the ages of five to seventeen with their personal and/or family related addiction problems.
Drawing on her extensive business skills, Alicia has served as chair, cochair, auction chair, invitation chair, program chair, and advisor for various events, festivals, and galas benefiting a wide range of philanthropic organizations. Among the many are: American Heart Association, Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation, Houston Ballet, UNICEF, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Children’s Assessment Center, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, The Mission of Yahweh, March of Dimes, Houston Symphony, Ronald McDonald House, Gr8 Hope Foundation, Arrow Child & Family Ministries, Lutheran South Academy, PDAP, and the 100th Anniversary of Houston's Parks & Recreation Department.
Though her dance card is undeniably full with balancing family life and a rewarding career, volunteer work seems to come naturally to Alicia. Her honors include: the Team Excellence Award – CAC Direct Service Volunteer by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas; the 2004 Children’s Assessment Center Spirit of Spring honoree; being named a 2007 Women of Distinction honoree; Leadership Houston Class XXVI; being named one of the 25 Most Beautiful Houstonians by H Texas Magazine in 2007, 2009, and 2015; being named an Haute Mom by Icon Magazine; being honored by Crisis Intervention of Houston “The A-List;” being chosen as a Houston Sweetheart; receiving the Excellence in Bloom award from the Women’s Health Summit, Huffington Center on Aging; being named one of the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GHWCC) Breakthrough Women of 2014; being named a 2014 Social Book Houston Treasure; being named a 2015 Community Champion by Texas Children’s Cancer Center; being named a 2017 Woman of Substance by Mission of Yahweh, being named one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2017; being named top WBEA CEO of 2017, being named a 2018 Easter Seals Hats Off to Mothers honoree, and being named one of Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed of 2018.
Intelligence, dedication, empathy, and excellence are the qualities Alicia Smith brings to everything she is involved in, whether it be her career, her family, or her philanthropic work. She also brings humility. Alicia cannot thank her husband, Lance, and her three boys enough for graciously supporting everything she does and for allowing her to share her time with others.
It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that Alicia Smith has been named a Top 20 Inspiring Woman Impact Maker for 2019.
