Dr. Shelena C. Lalji, founder of Dr. Shel Wellness & Aesthetic Center, has served the medical and wellness needs of women and men in the greater Houston area for over 20 years. An honors graduate of Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, Dr. Lalji is a board certified OB/GYN with extensive experience in functional medicine, aesthetics, and alternative treatments. After practicing as an OB/GYN for 13 years, Dr. Lalji took the giant step of pursuing an independent practice in a field she was passionate about. Diligence, motivation, and the support of her family and clients made Dr. Lalji’s dream of providing Houston and its surrounding communities with wellness services a reality.

 

After steadily building a team of prominent Houston medical practitioners, patient coordinators, aesthetic specialists, nurses, and nutritionists, she opened the Dr. Shel Wellness & Aesthetic Center in a custom-built space in Sugar Land in 2008. The beautifully appointed facility allowed Dr. Lalji more opportunity to provide specialized care for her patients. With every service the facility offers, Dr. Lalji dedicates herself to empowering her patients, encouraging them to live up to their full potential.

 

Dr. Lalji believes in the strong connection between the art of beauty and the science of wellness and has written a book on the topic called: I Am Woman: Our Journeys to Health, Happiness, and Harmony. She is also an in-demand international speaker and trainer and focuses on educating practitioners about treating the entire patient, not just concentrating on their symptoms or test results.

 

As an advocate for wellness and a dedicated member of many charitable institutions, Dr. Lalji makes it a top priority to continuously give back to the community. Over the years she has held several volunteer positions in various organizations, including the American Cancer Society Leadership Council and The Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine. She has also worked with a myriad of child advocacy groups, women’s shelters, and women’s empowerment groups in a voluntary capacity.

 

Because of her tenured professional experience, Dr. Lalji has been selected as the keynote speaker at numerous conferences, including the Texas Conference for Women and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine Conference. She has also appeared several times on local and national television shows to educate viewers about healthy lifestyles, natural and alternative health approaches, aesthetics, and other noteworthy women’s issues.

 

Dr. Lalji has accomplished a great deal in her personal and professional life, and for that reason has received numerous awards and honors. They include being named one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women by Houston Woman’s Magazine; being selected as the Texas Blazing Star by the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas, which recognizes professional achievement, community leadership, and support for the economic advancement of business and professional women in Texas; and being voted one of the Most Interesting Medical Aesthetic Leaders by The Aesthetic Show, an important and influential event dedicated to the rapidly expanding field of aesthetic medicine.

 

In November 2017, Dr. Lalji’s husband, Dr. Ayeez Lalji, an entrepreneur, dentist, and father, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a fatal, progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord by muscle denervation. Dr. Lalji, alongside her family, has since founded the Lalji ALS Foundation (ALS Heroes). Recently, the foundation held the inaugural ALS Mastermind Summit, which brought together twenty-eight of the world’s most thought-provoking clinicians, scientists, and opinion leaders on ALS. As a researcher, Dr. Lalji is committed to finding a cure for this debilitating disease and to being an advocate for care-givers.

 

Because of her belief in a strongly balanced life, Dr. Lalji enjoys her many roles as physician, women’s advocate, entrepreneur, loving wife, and devoted mother to her two beautiful children.
