Mehrnaz S. Gill is a busy wife, mother, author and community volunteer. She has a Master of Science degree in gerontology (the study of social, psychological and biological aspects of aging) and devotes her professional and personal time to causes relating to the elderly and their well-being. Mehrnaz is especially interested in intergenerational and literacy programs involving children and older adults.

 

Her expertise in the field of gerontology gives her the ability to speak on topics related to healthy aging. Mehrnaz has served as a presenter at local and national meetings, including the American Society on Aging Conference and the Governor’s Conference on Aging.

 

Currently, Mehrnaz is a consultant with Elder Advisory Group LLP. Prior to that, she held various leadership positions at Baylor College of Medicine’s Huffington Center on Aging and the Texas Consortium of Geriatric Education Centers as well as Decision Information Resources, and Living Centers of American’s Beechnut Manor.

 

Mehrnaz shares her time generously with numerous deserving organizations, including HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center Board, Baylor College of Medicine’s Huffington Center on Aging, the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation Ladies for Literacy Guild, The Amazing Place, the National Charity League, and many others.

 

She is a sustaining member of The Junior League of Houston and has been involved with the Alzheimer’s Association, the Gerontological Society of America, the Mental Health Association, UNICEF, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Open Door Mission, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, the Houston Symphony League, and numerous other venerable institutions.

 

Mehrnaz has received numerous honors, including being named an ABC13 Woman of Distinction, receiving the Excellence in Bloom Award from the Baylor College of Medicine’s Huffington Center on Aging, and being selected as an LCA Houston International Mother’s Day honoree. She has also been named a Houston Sweetheart and was selected as one of H Texas Magazine's 25 Beautiful Houstonians  for her dedication and philanthropic efforts.

 

Houston Lifestyles and Homes magazine featured Mehrnaz as one of four modern Houston moms in an article recognizing women who juggle motherhood, careers, volunteer work, and everything else in this very modern world. She has also been featured in Absolutely Memorial Magazine and LCAHouston magazine.

 

Inspired by her wish to connect with her late father, Mehrnaz has written a heart-warming children’s book. The Yellow Butterfly tells the story of a magical butterfly that grants wishes. The story brings her late father’s unfailing positive attitude and love to children everywhere who need the powerful magic of heartfelt wishes. As an author, Mehrnaz visits schools and has participated in book events for the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, the Texas Book Festival, and the Texas Library Association Annual Conference.

 

Mehrnaz lives in Houston with her husband, Ned Gill, and their two children. Their 18-year-old son is a freshman at Baylor University. Mehrnaz and her 14-year-old daughter are members of the National Charity League and enjoy volunteering together at various organizations in Houston. Going on walks, trying different sushi restaurants, and traveling are some of the things her family like to do together. Their favorite family vacation spots are La Jolla and San Diego, where they go every year.

 

It can be said that few give of their time and expertise as abundantly as Mehrnaz while giving so generously to her own family, a trait passed down to her by her late mother. Her passion for her community, her family, and assisting the elderly with healthy aging are reflected in everything she does.

 

It is for all the reasons mentioned above, and many more, that Mehrnaz S. Gill has been named a Top 20 Inspiring Woman Impact Maker for 2020.
