Breakthrough T1D To Host Mariposa: Spread Your Wings, This Year’s Upcoming Promise Ball

One of Houston’s most anticipated and highest netting fundraisers, the Promise Ball, will be held at the Hilton Americas-Houston on Saturday, April 5, 2025. It will be hosted by Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), the leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization.

Kellie and Randy Johnson will chair this year’s Mariposa: Spread Your Wings themed event. Erin and Chris Dyer, along with Erin’s parents, Ronda and Dan Feeney, will be the honorees. The recipient of the Meredith and Fielding Cocke Visionary Award will be Patricia Wright and Victoria and Chris Wright will be highlighted as the Fund a Cure Family.

Drew Dougherty, host of Houston Texans TV, will serve as the emcee. The evening will present a powerful program celebrating the many advancements in the research and treatment of type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that inhibits the body’s ability to make insulin.

Guests will be invited to participate in a silent auction curated by auction cochairs, Jance and William Hagans. There will also be a live auction led by auctioneer Johnny Holloway from Johnny Bravo Entertainment, which is sure to be exciting. Other opportunities to participate in fundraising activities will include an exquisite wine pull, sweepstakes, and an opportunity to support T1D research during the Fund A Cure portion of the evening.

The Casino Games After Party, during which attendees can try their hand at winning fun prizes, will feature Undercover Band and culminate the uplifting occasion. It will be hosted by Liskow.

Individual tickets start at $750. Numerous table sponsorships are available for $7,500 to $100,000.

About Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)

T1D is an autoimmune condition that causes the pancreas to make very little insulin or none at all. This leads to dependence on insulin therapy and the risk of short- and long-term complications, which can include highs and lows in blood sugar; damage to the kidneys, eyes, nerves, and heart; and even death. Globally, it impacts nearly 9 million people. Many believe T1D is only diagnosed in childhood and adolescence, but diagnosis in adulthood is common and accounts for nearly 50 percent of all T1D diagnoses. The onset of T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. There is currently no cure for T1D.
