About Today’s Harbor For Children

A residential community for our youth

With more than 70 years of experience providing resources, support and guidance to kids in crisis, this organization is a changemaker and advocate for abused and neglected children throughout the southeast Texas region. The Harbor houses up to 64 children in 8 cottages licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in a seaside campus in La Porte, Texas.

 

Our approach

Today’s Harbor for Children’s unique approach utilizes place, family structure and choice to act as a force of change in addressing all facets of abuse and neglect. These three key elements empower children to overcome self-destructive patterns, break cycles of abuse, develop social skills, learn responsibility and ultimately take back their own life path, becoming our next generation of neighbors, coworkers, friends and families.

 

​Who lives at Today’s Harbor for Children?

The average age of a child living at the Harbor is 10 to 12 years, with approximately 50 percent boys and 50 percent girls. The average length of stay is two to three years; however, some children may spend their entire childhood at Today’s Harbor for Children. Each year we provide residential care for over 100 children. Since its inception, thousands of children have called Today’s Harbor for Children their home.
